Australian’s first National Health Literacy Framework has launched!
Australia’s first National Health Literacy Framework was officially launched by the Hon Rebecca White MP, Assistant Minister for Health and Ageing, at the Chau Chak Wing Museum on 1 September 2026. The development of the Framework was led by Prof Kirsten McCaffery, Assoc Prof Dani Muscat, Assoc Prof Carissa Bonner and Dr Julie Ayre, working closely with partners and consumer representatives. The Framework will support action to make health information and services easier to find, understand and use, while helping people build the skills and confidence to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
It recognises that good health literacy depends not only on people's skills and knowledge, but also on having information and services that are easy to find, understand and use.
