Yves Saint James Acquino and Team Secure an MRFF Grant worth $1.5M for a study into human embryo and stem-cell research!

auSTEMbryo: A new national project on how Australia should regulate human embryo research and stem cell-based embryo models

This three-year, $1.5 million project, funded through the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF), will explore how Australia should regulate human embryo research and emerging stem cell-based embryo models (SCBEMs) as rapid scientific advances challenge existing regulatory frameworks.

At the University of Wollongong, Wiser’s Dr Yves Saint James Aquino from the Australian Centre for Health Engagement, Evidence and Values (ACHEEV) will lead a work package to conduct a national citizens’ jury, a deliberative democratic method to engage citizens from the wider community in decision-making processes.

Other project partners include the University of Sydney, NSW Stem Cell Network, CCRM Australia, and the Society for Reproductive Biology.
